Despite finishing at the bottom of the ladder last season, Subiaco are determined to take a more competitive approach into the PS4 NPLWA this year.

And coach Ian McMurray said his side was ready for the season.

“Obviously we had a lot to work on after finishing at the bottom last season,” he said. “I think our team’s bond and the work ethic they have will help us over the year.”

McMurray believes Mandurah City, Joondalup United and Armadale will surprise the competition this year, but he expects the very best teams to create a gap with the rest of the competition as the season progresses.

“I think there could be four or five teams at the top end of the table and the rest at the bottom of the table, so I’d say there could be a few good rivalries this year.”

Subiaco have recruited a number of new players this season, but McMurray knows his team’s chances of success will rely on a collective effort.

“I am looking for the whole squad to do their part for the team,” he said. “Our captain Ryan Montgomery has been here the last three years and he has a professional attitude, is respected by the boys and is a good lad so he will lead the team by example.

“Hopefully we can finish up better than last year and play a better season of football.”

Subiaco will take on Cockburn City on Saturday at Dalmatinac Park in the first round of the PS4 NPLWA season.
