Floreat fire five past Subiaco

Report by Saxon Durarnt

Floreat Athena easily overcame a transitional Subiaco side 5-0 in a one-sided affair at the E&D Litis Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Floreat took the lead in the 10th minute when Ludovic Boi curled one home, before Phillip Arnold and Andrew Scaldaferro scored in the 31st and 38th minute respectively to make it 3-0 at halftime.

Any hope of a Subiaco comeback was extinguished after the break when Boi tapped in his second in the 50th minute and centre back Bobby Wilson headed home in the 56th minute.

Matters were made worse for Subiaco when Ian McMurray was sent off in the 62nd minute for collecting two yellow cards.

The result leaves Subiaco rooted to the bottom of the ladder being the only team not to pick up points so far this season.

Floreat Athena coach Glen Grostate said that he’s happy with the result as well as the style of football his side played against a tough opponent.

“It doesn’t matter who you play, Subiaco or you play Bayswater you just have to win game,” he said.

“Subiaco are going through a transition and they’re the hardest team to play because they fight for everything.”

Grostate was also pleased at the cutting-edge way in which his team killed off the game.

“Many times we’ve gone into games where 1-0, 2-0 is very dangerous. You have to finish things off and today we finished them off.”

Floreat’s Wilson, who scored as well as cleared an effort off the line, said that they need to take the result and aim for more wins.

“Last few weeks have been a lot tougher at the back for the defence than it was today,” he said. “I don’t think they really troubled us.

“We’ve got to set ourselves a target of eight to ten games unbeaten.

“There’s no reason why we can’t beat anyone”.

Subiaco coach Mick Brazil is still confident that Subiaco will pick up points during the season and was pleased with the performance despite the result.

“The instruction at halftime was we’re down but try and win the second half and with 10 men I don’t think we could ask for anymore,” he said. “They’re learning as they go.”
