Bayswater City earned a place in their first PS4 NPL National Grand Final with a stunning 6-0 win over Tasmania’s Hobart Olympia at Frank Drago Reserve today.

It was a stunning performance from Chris Coyne’s side with former Huddersfield Town striker David Heagney bagging a hat-trick, man of the match Borbor Sam scoring twice and Gustavo Giron Marulanda also on target.

Bayswater will take on Sydney outfit Blacktown City in next weekend’s Grand Final to be held in Perth. The date and venue are yet to be confirmed.

Coyne praised a clinical performance and singled out Sam for his terrific contribution.

“I don’t like to pick out individuals but I thought Borbor had his best game of the season for us,” Coyne said.

“He was stunning and he had a few mates out there to. We had a game plan and the lads stuck to it and I was real pleased with the way we played today and got our rewards.”

Heagney said Bayswater had gone into the game full of confidence after last week’s quarter-final win over West Adelaide away from home.

“We spoke before the game that if we play our best and work hard as a team we can beat anyone,” he said.

“It’s nice to score a hat-trick but the service I got today from Borbor and Danny Dixon was outstanding and I was happy to be on the end of them today.”

The home started brightly and skipper Trent Kay headed over when unmarked early, while Olympia threatened on 10 minutes but Warren Wadawu’s shot on the turn failed to find the target.

Bayswater showed them how to do on 13 minutes when they took the lead.  Former Perth Glory Youth winger Sam raced past Harry Woolley and crossed to Heagney, who made no mistake from close-range.

The goal seemed to lift Olympia and Luke Eyles shot straight at Devon Spence before Lachlan Nichols’ curling shot from the edge of the penalty area whistled just past the post.

But on 28 minutes Bayswater doubled their advantage. A ball over the top from Brian Farrell sent Marulanda clear and the Columbian striker finished with aplomb past Sean Lewis.

Olympia were struggling in the final third as Bayswater continued to threaten and Sam saw a shot flash inches wide, before Heagney tested Lewis late but the Olympia custodian saved low.

It was more of the same after the break as Bayswater dictated terms and they increased their lead on 64 minutes, Heagney racing clear and finished clinically.

Bayswater were showing no signs of abating and they added a fourth on 73 minutes, with Sam cutting in from the left and firing low past Lewis.

Olympia were wilting and Bayswater added their fifth moments later, with Heagney finishing to complete his hat-trick.

The icing was put on the cake with three minutes remaining, with Sam capping off an outstanding performance drifting in from the left and firing low past Lewis.
