Three moments of individual brilliance continued Sorrento’s ten game unbeaten streak after defeating Inglewood 3-0 at Percy Doyle Reserve today.

Todd Harnwell scored the only first half goal, while Jack Eades converted a fantastic free kick in the 65th minute before Ryan Pearson rounded off the scoring in the 82nd minute.

Harnwell was delighted to have eased the pressure with the opening goal.

“We were under the pump a little bit so just to give us that breathing space with the opening goal was nice,” he said.

“And I don’t score too many goals like that so it was good.”

Assistant coach Steve Neville said it took Sorrento a while to find their feet in the game, but he was pleased with their clinical finishing.

“We have been trialling a few different formations to get ready for the Sydney (Westfield FFA Cup at nib Stadium on August 5) game so it took us a little while to get used to the system.

“At the moment we are in a winning habit and we want to keep that going to the end of the season.”

But Neville was concerned with Jack Salter and Daryl Platten picking up potentially sidelining injuries.

“Fingers crossed they’ll be ok,” he said. “It’s a bad time to have players out injured.”

Inglewood immediately forced Sorrento onto the back foot and in the first minute Scott Witschge prompted a fantastic one-handed save from James Morgan, denying the visitors an early lead.

Five minutes later Witschge again demonstrated his worth, only narrowly missing the net from a tight angled shot across the face of goal.

The home side initially struggled to find a way through Inglewood’s defence. But in the 38th minute Harnwell drove up the right wing and his textbook shot from distance curled into the top left corner of the net.

In the 65th minute Eades doubled the Gulls lead with a quality free kick, again curling into the top corner, rivalling Harnwell’s effort for goal of the game.

The visitors came close to scoring 10 minutes later when Morgan spilled David Micevski’s free kick, but he recovered brilliantly to block the follow up and concede a corner.

Then Pearson finished the game off in the 82nd minute with a shot from distance.

Inglewood were unlucky to come away without a goal and coach Michael Garcia conceded it was why his side was mid-table.

“We are dominating pretty much every opposition that we play but for some reason we are just not taking the chances up front, which is leaving the opposition in the game, and it puts us under a bit more pressure,” he said

“It also seems to be a weekly trend that we either cop a bad call from a referee or some goals that are hard to defend.”

It was reserve goalkeeper Jordan Howell’s first start for the club.

“Jordan’s done very well for his first game. The only thing he could have done was possibly be a bit taller but we can’t control that,” Garcia joked.
