A Kenny Keogh header midway through the second half proved to be the difference, as Inglewood edged Subiaco 1-0, in a keenly contested PS4 National Premier Leagues fixture.

Subiaco left the game feeling aggrieved at the result, as they created the majority of clear-cut chances, but were left to rue their poor finishing.

Like any Gerry McEwan side, Subiaco harried and pressed Inglewood to great effect in the first half.

Kevin White was guilty of wastefulness, spurning three gilt-edged chances, before being denied from the spot by Inglewood custodian Alexsander Vrteski.

A stern half time team talk by coach Michael Garcia saw Inglewood look more decisive, assured and industrious in the second half, and it was Ryan Clarke’s graft and cross that found Kenny Keogh unmarked for the lead.

Inglewood assistant coach Saul Contera was pleased with the second half turn around and the intensity of his side, which has seen them collect 12 points from a possible 15.

“We probably didn’t play our best game today,” he said.

“We gave the boys a bit of a rev up at half time and told them to move the ball a bit quicker because Subiaco were first to everything in the first half.

“But we got the goal that we wanted, kept it tight at the back, we lifted the tempo and dictated the game to see it out.”

Trailing with 20 minutes to go Subiaco pressed and was presented to two great chances to equalise.

A clever one-two between White and Nathan Diaz’s found White in a pocket of space in the Inglewood penalty area, but White could only drag his attempt wide.

Having been earlier denied a penalty for handball, Subiaco were awarded one after referee Mat Southern adjudged White to have been bundled over in the box.

White dusted himself off, only to see his well struck penalty stopped by Vrtevski’s strong save.

Subiaco coach Gerry McEwan rued his sides poor display of finishing and is hopeful the tide will turn with four striking options returning from injury in the coming weeks.

“I think nobody would have complained if we got all three points, a draw was the minimum we deserved,” McEwan said.

“They’ve finished the chance they got. We had numerous chances and just could not put them away and you know you have to.

“Even the penalty kick. It was a good save by Alex (Vrteyski) but you can’t have that amount of chances and not expect to get a point.

The boys are a bit upset but hopefully we keep creating chances like today and they’ll start going in.”
