Glory and Sorrento share the points

Report by Ellie Blackmore

Sorrento and Perth Glory were both left to rue missed opportunities in their 2-2 draw at Percy Doyle Reserve.

Two well-taken second half goals from Sorrento’s Sean Canham and Jack Salter weren’t enough to cancel out Perth Glory’s early Gian Albano penalty and Nic Talimdzioski strike.

Sorrento coach Jamie Harnwell was disappointed to only come away with a point.

“We dominated most of the game but couldn’t take our chances and gave them bad goals,” he said.

It’s a routine that Harnwell and his team has become accustomed to in recent weeks.

“It’s like a broken record at the moment,” he said.

“We’ve created chances, we’ve played some good football, but we haven’t been winning games.

“That’s been something we’ve been working on and will continue to work on.”

Perth Glory Assistant coach Jacob Burns knew it would be tough coming up against Sorrento at home, but was proud of his young side’s performance.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the guys we had in there today,” he said.

“We had something like 12 players from our first team squad out, so we had some 16-year-olds out there today who were incredible for me.

“I thought they more than held their own and had a great performance all round.”

Perth Glory was awarded the first opportunity of the game after debut player Michael McDougall was fouled in the box.

Gian Albano converted calmly from the spot to give Glory a 1-0 lead going into half time.

Sorrento came out firing in the second half and equalised with 20 minutes to play, when Sean Canham headed home Jason Mirco’s cross.

But Perth Glory was quick to counter, and a confident Nic Talimdzioski took on the Sorrento defence, and was rewarded with a goal against the run of play.

A vocal home crowd kept Sorrento hungry and Jack Salter didn’t disappoint by beating Glory keeper Jordan Franken five minutes later to tie up the scores.

Both teams created opportunities in the dying moments of the game, but neither were able to claim victory
