An in-form Inglewood United took advantage of their chances in front of goal as they beat Stirling Lions 2-0 at Inglewood Stadium.

A goal from David Micevski eight minutes before the break broke the stalemate before Tim Gould’s 78th minute volley sealed the win for the home side.

Rob Milevski’s team were strong from the kick-off but squandered early scoring opportunities from a corner and a Teeboy Kamara close-range shot.

“We had good chances and unfortunately we didn’t take them,” he said.

“We went into the break 1-0 down and conceded in the second half. We didn’t really look like getting back into the game after that.”

Inglewood coach Michael Garcia praised the efforts of his team on and off the pitch.

“We played really well offensively,” he said.

“We’ve been working at training to be a bit more fluent in attack and I think that’s worked well and today was just another example of continuing that progress.”

Moving up one spot again following last weeks’ away victory against Armadale, Garcia’s team now sit in seventh place on the ladder.

Kenny Keogh had the first chance for Inglewood with a header from a free kick.

Five minutes later Micevski got on the end of Keogh’s cross in to the box to score a well-timed header.

Stirling Lions’ goalkeeper Connor Campbell was subbed off injured after just 16 minutes on the pitch with a possible dislocated bone in his hand. His fumble had Stirling defenders scrambling to clear the ball as Inglewood players tried to get a foot on it.

In the 26th minute Stirling captain Milorad Vujacic flicked a pass to striker Robert Petkov, who couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity as he shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Petkov attempted to level the scores again early in the second half, but his header went over the crossbar.

Next up for Stirling will be an important away game against Perth SC, fourth placed below them on the ladder.
