Semi-final places booked

The National Premier Leagues WA Night Series semi-finalists were decided on an action-packed weekend of football.

Floreat Athena will face Perth SC (5pm) and Cockburn City will take on Stirling Lions (7pm) on Sunday, March 15 at Percy Doyle Reserve.

Cockburn City and Perth were both fighting to maintain their 100 percent records heading into the final round clash and Cockburn prevailed, 4-2, to clinch top spot in Group B.

On the Perth SC website, coach Taki Nicolaidis said his side were disappointing and particularly wasteful in front of goals.

“This has been coming for a couple of weeks and Cockburn proved to be the better team, punishing us for our mistakes,” Nicolaidis said.

“We had a few good chances in the first half and that came back and bit us in the bum.

“We copped four goals and if it wasn’t for Alex Dunn, our goalkeeper, we probably would have copped another two or three as well. It wasn’t acceptable.”

First-half goals from ECU’s Danny Dixon and Tommy Amphlett were enough to take down Inglewood United 2-0, while Sorrento got their second win in the competition defeating Armadale 4-0.

In Group A, Stirling Lions booked a semi-final berth with their 5-4 victory over Division One side Shamrock Rovers.

It was all tied up between Subiaco and Bayswater City with the match ending 1-1.

And Floreat Athena finished top of their group on goal difference with a 3-2 win over Balcatta.
