League Title Hopes Alive For Perth

Report by Kelechi Osunwa

Perth SC broke down a resilient Subiaco side in Saturday’s National Premier Leagues encounter at Dorrien Gardens thanks to two second half goals.

The 2-0 win ensures that the league title will be decided on the final day of the season following Bayswater City’s 3-0 win over Floreat Athena.

In a largely uneventful first half, Subiaco had the best chance to take the lead just before the stroke of half time.  Patient build up from the visitors created room for the overlapping Nathan Diaz. His driven cross fizzed past the goal area with no Subiaco player getting a final touch.

Perth started the second half the better of the two sides and took the lead by fortuitous circumstances. After a series of poor corner kicks, Mark Pritchard saw his corner swing directly into the far post beyond the reach of Subiaco custodian Sam Stone.

The lead was doubled in the 75 minute from another corner. Stone managed to apply a strong fist to half clear the corner but Friday Zico sent a cross into the danger area that resulted in Ashley Rosindale tapping in as Subiaco failed to clear for a second time.

Midfielder Alex Randell felt that his Subiaco side was lacking in maturity and a little bit of extra quality that could have been the difference in many games this season.

“I’m gutted about today,” Randell said. “And it seems to be the same mistakes every week. We’re conceding far too many off set pieces and we don’t take our chances when we get them.”

The result is Subiaco’s fourth loss in five games but Randell believes his team can take the lesson learned from this season and hopefully improve for their final game against ECU Joondalup.
