Teeboy on the boil

Report by Aisling Lawless

Young gun Teeboy Kamara’s first National Premier Leagues  WA goals helped guide Inglewood United to comfortable a 3-0 win against ECU Joondalup at Intiga Stadium yesterday.

The 17-year-old scored a brace in the second half, while Ryan Clarke clinched the third to seal Inglewood’s win and extend their unbeaten streak to five games.

Kamara said he was “really, really, really happy” with his goals, especially given his long absence from the game. The former Adelaide United striker joined Inglewood this season and has made his presence felt.

“Every game is a hard game in the NPL so I’m just happy to be back playing football and scoring goals is just a bonus,” he said. “I’m pleased the team is winning and playing well.”

Kamara said the welcoming atmosphere at the club had really helped him out since he arrived in Perth a couple of months ago.

“I feel like I’ve been here for the last 10 years and the coaches have been amazing,” he said. “They keep encouraging me every time I make a mistake which is great because I’m still young and learning. I reckon I've picked the best club in Perth to play for.”

In the first half, Inglewood failed to penetrate ECU’s solid back four, which prevented the home side from having any real clear-cut chances.

David Sesay worked hard on the left wing to provide scoring opportunities but the closest he came to unlocking the defence was in the 32nd minute when his dangerous pass across the face of goal was missed by everyone.

The breakthrough came six minutes into the second half when Clarke slipped the ball to Kamara, who hammered the ball into the back of the net.

Clarke was a key figure in most of Inglewood’s chances with his pace presenting challenges for the Joondalup defence.

Kamara scored his second of the match in the 83rd minute when he skipped past ECU keeper Andy Banks and had a sole defender guarding the goal to beat. As Banks scrambled back, Kamara fired home. Clarke sealed Inglewood’s win three minutes later.

ECU Coach Dale McCulloch was disappointed that his team had failed to bounce back from their loss to Balcatta.

Missing key midfielder Tommy Amphlett was a blow to the team but McCulloch said there was no excuse for not being good enough on the day with the squad they had.

“[Inglewood] thoroughly deserved their win, all credit to them, we just weren’t here today.”
