Domfeh at the double for Perth SC

Report by Ryan Borrett

NPL WA leaders Perth SC continued their undefeated start to the 2019 season with a 3-1 win over Sorrento thanks to two second-half goals from Michael Domfeh.

Saturday's match at Percy Doyle Reserve on Saturday was tightly contested, with Sorrento’s Cameron Teece cancelling out Gustavo Catarcione’s early goal before the interval.

However the Azzurri continued to push on in the second half and capitalised on the Gulls’ mistakes at the back with Domfeh scoring twice as Perth increased their lead at the top of the table to nine points.

Sorrento will be bitterly disappointed with the result after they matched the reigning champions for all but a few moments in the game.

Catarcione gave the Azzurri the lead in the fifth minute with a fantastic volley after he got under a poor headed clearance.

But despite conceding early the Gulls did not drop their heads and fought hard to get back into the match.

Their efforts were rewarded in the 41st minute as Scott Witschge found space on the right and curled in a great cross to the far post that found the unmarked Teece, who headed home.

The second half started evenly and the game looked all to play for.

But as Perth have done all season, they found a way to break the deadlock once again.

Catarcione broke into the Sorrento box and fed Domfeh. His initial effort was blocked by a scrambling Gulls defence but he was presented with a second chance which he buried into the bottom corner.

Sorrento’s hopes of a late comeback were quashed in the 89th minute when Teece was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

And Perth capitalised on the extra man to score their third goal when Domfeh was played in behind the Gulls defence and he rounded Sorrento keeper James Morgan to finish into an empty net.

Sorrento are due a lot of credit for their performance despite the result and will hope to bring that effort to their FFA Cup trip to Fremantle City on Monday. Perth face Bayswater City in their Round Six tie at Dorrien Gardens.
