Knights In 'Seventh' Heaven!

The Knights had to get up early for their 9am journey to Margaret River and whilst their trusty steeds (the family car) would get them there in comfort and style, the early morning mid-winter start did come as a bit of a shock for most (including the mums and dads).

Whilst there was considerable pre-match discussion and concern about getting 'drowned' on what looked like being a very wet morning, the big questions on everyones lips, including Coach Fraser's, were "are the Knights ready to 'charge' after the school holidays" and "would that great passing and ball control be missing after several weeks without match practice!"

The 'Margaret River Spitfires' looked good and ready to play and they had the home ground advantage.  Coach Fraser had pencilled this match in as a tough road trip and with star midfielder Samuel taking some much needed R&R, along with some high altitude training, masquerading as a skiing holiday (what a pro, always trying to trick the opposition!) the Coach looked nervous as the whistle blew for the start of the match.

The game started and to everyones surprise there was a break in the weather and despite some wet ground conditions both teams were showing good ball control and testing each other out.  Although Coach Fraser had noticed some worrying signs of the dreaded 'holiday-itis' in his chargers.  However, following some great midfield pressure by the every reliable Kane, a series of beautiful passes through the midfield, and some excellent work and glorious cross by Jayden from the right wing - the teams efforts were duly rewarded by a clinical strike from Levi. 1-0 the Knights!

The Knight's and Spitfires then settled into an 'arm wrestle' and despite several good shots from both teams and several excellent chances for the Knights, it was the Spitfires that leveled the score with 5 minutes remaining in the first half with a great long ball that got in behind the Knights defense, and despite a valiant dive from Jarred in goal, the Spitfire's drove the ball just inside the left upright.  1-1, the Knights new it was game on!

But just before the stroke of half time Kane stepped up with a lovely run and expert finish to restore the margin, much to Coach Fraser's relief and delight  - but a one goal cushion is never enough at half time.

After the half time talk, the Knights came out with increased passion and purpose.  Also, a half of football under their belts seemed to restore that clinical touch and passing that the Knights are becoming renowned for.

Great defensive work from Jaslin, Jade, Joey, Jarred, Jacob and Noah in goal was holding back anything the 'Spitfires' could launch and with Jayden and Isabella starting to dominate the wide areas of the pitch and making telling runs down the wings, there were several near misses and it was only a remarkable save from the Spitfire's goalie that stopped Aaron from opening his account early in the second half.

The relentless pressure from the Knights had to give and on 10 minutes Jacob got on the end of another save from the Spitfire's goalkeeper and drove home the Knight's third ... and the fans went wild! Jacob was immediately substituted to celebrate with the fans (particularly 'Dad' and 'Coach Fraser') and this also signaled a change in team tactics.

Coach Fraser then asked the ever reliable Aaron to strengthen the Knights' defense and to stop any counter attacks and with two more goals from Kane and Levi the Knights had secured their 7th win on the trott, in what is becoming a remarkable season for the mighty Cornerstone Knights.

Jayden was awarded player of the day for some fantastic work on the right wing, which set up many goals and chances - well done Jayden!
