One minute he was working in childcare. The next, he was on an AFL rookie list. Five months later, he was playing on the MCG in front of 95,000 people. Josh Smith's world changed rapidly in 2016, but the 22-year-old remained calm and composed throughout and enters his second year at the club as one of its most underrated players.
He played 18 games, averaged 20 disposals and entrenched himself as a first choice player on the half back flank. The 22-year-old was on the draft radar for several years, representing Queensland in the National Under 18 Championships as far back as 2011.
Blessed with an elite running capacity and a strong determination to train hard, he is one of three Redland products on Collingwood's list along with Adam Oxley and Josh Thomas.
