Former league president, Gerry Griffiths, will continue his strong association with the competition by having the Goal Kicker of the Year trophy named after him. The Gerry Griffiths Leading Goal Kicker of the Year trophy will be keenly contested by the league's sharp shooters. The formal announcement and award are to be made at the TAFL's presentation night later in the year. Newly elected TAFL President, Darrell Benfield, has welcomed the award saying it is a great tribute to the league's goal kickers and to Gerry Griffiths who was TAFL President for 11 years. In the meantime, Mr. Benfield has welcomed the announcement that Hills Transport in Tamworth will continue as a major sponsor in 2008. This is Hills Transport's 10th year as a major sponsor and a spokesperson for the company says they are very pleased to be able to continue their support of the TAFL.
The League's season will kick off on April 12th with a 6 team competition following a decision by the Narrabri Eagles to put their club into recess for 2008. The TAFL and the AFL will now work with the Eagles to ensure their return in 2009. AFL NSW/ACT Club Development Officer, Chris Mintern, will be meeting with the Eagles officials in the near future to look at strategies which will get the team back on track next season.
