KEN HARVEY INDUCTED INTO THE 2013 HALL OF FAME

It is with great pleasure we announce Ken Harvey's induction to the Basketball New South Wales Hall of Fame. Honoured at a gala dinner at Albert Palais Function Centre in Leichhardt on Friday July 5th, Ken was one twelve inductees recognised for their contribution to the sport.

Ken joins Bob Staunton, Charlie Ammitt and Brad Dalton from the association to this exclusive group.

Ken Harvey has over 68 years of active and distinguished service to the sport of Basketball in New South Wales. At the City of Sydney Basketball Association Ken is considered a "Legend".

Commencing his involvement with basketball back in 1944 playing with the YMCA his contribution to the association not only involves playing but also refereeing, bench official, administrator and promoter of the game both locally and at a state level.

One of among many of Ken's achievements was his support and promotion of Wheelchair basketball in NSW. As a board member for the CSBA Ken opened negotiations between the CSBA for the Wheelkings to play under the CSBA. The Wheelkings who played in the original National Wheelchair Basketball League then became the Rollers and while playing under the CSBA banner won the 1996 National Championship.

Ken's contribution to Basketball in NSW has been recognised by the award of life membership from many organisations listed below:

City of Sydney Basketball Association

Sydney YMCA

Sydney YMCA Basketball Club

Sydney Basketball Council

Sydney Basketball Referee's Association

NSW Basketball Referee's Association

NSW Basketball

Ken Harvey's outstanding and long time contribution to basketball was recognised when he was honoured by the awarding of the NSW Government Sports Federation Long Service Award.

For over 68 years Ken Harvey has either played, coached, managed, refereed, kept score or administered basketball in NSW. To this day, at the age of 84, he is still involved in coaching 3 YMCA teams in the CSBA local competitions and is one of our most active life members. His involvement in Basketball has greatly enriched his life but without doubt Ken has greatly influenced and provided opportunities for many people in Basketball.
