AFL CAPRICORNIA TREND INTERIORS TILE AND CARPET COURT ROUND 10 WRAP UP
Round 10 of the AFL Capricornia Trend Interior Carpet and Tile Court premiership campaign saw three big contests take place with all teams looking to get a win on the board and sure up their finals berths. Over at Stenlake Park we witnessed the first draw of the season with Glenmore and Brothers both kicking 14.10.94. The other game played in town saw Panthers host the Mudcrab’s and Panthers ran out easy winners with the end margin blowing out to 114 points. In the final game we saw Yeppoon continue their winning ways travelling down to BITS to win by a healthy four goals and keep a stranglehold on top spot.
Glenmore Bulls 14.10.94 drew to Brothers 14.10.94 @ Stenlake Park
This contest saw Brothers travel to Stenlake Park to face the second placed Bulls in what is always tipped to be a closer game then where the teams are positioned on the competition ladder. With the game starting and the wind favoring neither side Brothers made the most of their opportunities to go into quarter time 9 points clear. The second quarter started the same way the first ended with Brothers finding plenty of the football and kicking true to be clear by 5 goals early in the quarter. With Glenmore looking out of the game their midfield finally started to read the taps and moved the football forward quickly. With Derek Mangan providing a good target up forward the Bulls piled on the last 5 goals of the quarter to be 4 points up at halftime. The third quarter was a arm wrestle with neither side able to put their dominance on the game and with the ball going from end to end both sides put together good passages of play to kick 4 goals each and have Glenmore still holding their 4 point lead at three quarter time. The final quarter saw Brothers resurgence as Scott Smithwick, Moore, Clifford and co getting their hands on the footy Brothers kicked the first 3 goals of the quarter and with only 10minutes to go held onto a two goal lead. The Bulls midfield then countered the resistance shown by Brothers led mainly by Cameron Imrie as the ball moved forward and the Bulls kicking 2 goals of their own to hold a 2 point lead with less then five minutes remaining in the game. The ball remained in Brothers half of the field for the remaining 5 minutes of the match and when the siren sounded the crowd and the players were shocked to see the scorecard read 14.10.94 a piece. Best players for Glenmore were Imrie, Mangan (6 goals), Tyson Payne, Russell, Williams (2 goals) and Cameron (3 goals) while for Brothers the best were Moore, Turnbull, O’Brien, Matheson, Pollock and West while Rose and Colbourne kicked 3 goals each.
Panthers 23.20.158 defeated Gladstone 6.8.44 @ RCG
The Mudcrabs travelled up the Bruce Highway looking to salvage some respect in the AFL Capricornia competition by racking up an impressive win over the fast finishing Panthers. Unfortunately, for the script writers no one had told Panthers about this plot as they mauled Gladstone in the first quarter kicking 7 goals to 0 and never looked back. With Panthers winning all areas of the field their lead continued to blow out and before you could tell they were up by 13 goals at three quarter time thanks to their 7.8 third quarter. Panthers continued the flow and continued to add salt to the wounds of the Mudcrabs as they went on to post a more then convincing 114 point win and further stated their claims as premiership contenders as they jumped ahead of Glenmore into second place. The only positives for a disappointing Gladstone were the fact they won the second quarter. The final score read Panthers 23.20.158 to Gladstone 6.8.44. Best players for Panthers were Payne, Clifford, Guard, Evans (2 goals), Ennis (6 goals) and Kaufman (6 goals) while for Gladstone the best were Mafrici, Ryan, Chirgwin, Dycer, Saddlier (2 goals) and Clay.
BITS 8.8.56 defeated by Yeppoon 11.14.80 @ BITS Country Club
This game saw ladder leaders face the fancied BITS Saints at Boyne Island. The Swans looking to keep their season on track and go into the break 9 – 1 and BITS looking to put emphasis onto their premiership claims the game shaped up to be a beauty. With the ball being hard to win and the game tooing and frowing from end to end the side who could get more shots at goal would prove to be the winner. Unfortunately for the Saints the side able to convert possession more onto the scoreboard was the Yeppoon outfit and with the speed of their young brigade and the ability to control possession when needed through their more senior players the Swans managed to win al but the second quarter of this much anticipated match as they ran out comfortable 24 point winners and kept themselves well clear of any challengers for the minor premiership. Best players for Yeppoon were Robertson, Higgins (4 goals), Briggs, Wallin, Yore, Nicholls and for BITS the best were Hall (4 goals), Boase (2 goals), Bywaters, Shipard, Vivian, Dickenson.
