The game between GLENMORE and GLADSTONE was a tight contest all day with the Muddies getting up by 20 points at the final siren.
The Bulls started quickly and with Toby Payne finding plenty of the football through the middle of the ground there were lots of chances for the Glenmore forwards. The Muddies defence held strong and although their midfield was struggling to match the Bulls midfield line-up the Muddies were only down by a goal at 1/4 time.
Gladstone came out firing in the second quarter and with more accountability around the ground they started to take control of the contest. With the momentum now with the Muddies they were able to kick four goals for the quarter to take a slim lead into 1/2 time.
The Muddies proved too strong in the last half and continued to have a number of opportunities in front of goal. Some inaccurate kicking kept the Bulls in the match however in the end Gladstone proved too strong at home for the Bulls. Brendon Parnaby and Reece Sadlier were good up forward for the Muddies whilst Brodie Coles cleaned up everything across the half back line.
The game between the top two teams in the competition, BROTHERS and YEPPOON, proved to be a fantastic contest with the Swans suffering their first defeat for the year. Brothers fought out the match and ended up 17 point winners, a huge effort considering it was a home game for Yeppoon.
It was tight in the opening half with Brothers matching it with the Swans, trailing by just 13 points at the main break. The third quarter proved to be an arm wrestle with Brothers hitting the front before Yeppoon kicked goals in succesion to be down by a single point at the final change.
In the final term Brothers kicked six goals to three to run out winners. Aiden Colbourne kicked another bag, six goals for the winners, and continues to prove why he is the best small forward in the league. Wes Hawke lead the way for Yeppoon being their best player.
The final game of the round provided a massive upset with the PANTHERS recording their first win of the year over BITS. Playing at home the Panthers side managed to put in their best performance for the year and win the game by 14 points.
BITS entered the game as warm favourites and would have expected to bounce back after losing the previous game at home to Yeppoon. Instead, they ran into a resurgent Panthers outfit that proved too strong in the end.
Lyle Clifford led the way for the Panthers, supported well by Joel Ralph who is having an excellent season. Once agan, the youngsters were forced to stand up for BITS. Miles Clarke was best on for BITS, making the step from U/17's football to the senior ranks with ease this year.
The league ladder now looks much closer with three teams even on 12 points.
