Crocs re-sign Robertson & Tovey

The Townsville McDonald’s Crocodiles keen to retain the chemistry of last year’s roster have re-signed Cameron Tovey and Kelvin Robertson for the upcoming 2009/10 season which tips off 25 September against the Gold Coast Blaze.

Born in Townsville the Crocodiles are the only NBL club Robertson has ever played for. Having played all 219 games with the Crocs he is their longest serving player.

The natural on court leader and three-point shooter has been making excellent progress in his recovery from an ACL injury he sustained at the ‘Swamp’ against the former South Dragons team.

The Crocs are confident he’ll be ready to suit up in time for their first round clash against Gold Coast on 25 September at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

In seeking to win the 2009/10 Championship the Townsville McDonald’s Crocodiles have retained a similar look side to the one that came close to securing a grand final appearance in 2008/09, and have also today announced Cameron Tovey will suit up for the coming season.

Last season as a Crocodile was the second time small forward Tovey had been to the playoffs having previously been a member of the Sydney Kings team that won the minor premiership in 2007/08.

Before tackling this year’s national basketball season, Tovey will first travel to Serbia and play for Australia in the World University Summer Games. The World University Summer Games happen every two years under the watchful eye of the International University Sports Federation and will provide Tovey with some great competition leading into the season.

Tovey has stayed in Townsville during the off season preparing for the World University Games, working on his fitness and suiting up in the QBL’s Townsville Heat colours.

The 199 centimeter small forward is one of the most athletic players in the NBL and showed significant improvement posting career best averages in scoring and rebounding last season.

Crocodiles Head Coach Trevor Gleeson said both players continue to be invaluable members of the team.

“Cameron will be a great asset for us. He is quick, athletic and is only just starting to show his true potential.

“Kelvin has proven himself to be one of the top Point Guards in Australia and his maturity has improved every year. He has become a very savvy veteran on the floor.”
