NEWPORT POWER AND WERRIBEE DISTRICTS WIN BIG
By NICK GALEA U19 Division 2
NEWPORT have recorded at 98-point win over battling Sanctuary Lakes, 17.16. (118) to 3.2. (20), holding them scoreless for three quarters and will enter the bye in a positive state of mind as they strengthened their hold on top spot.
Newport controlled the early stages of the first quarter as they were able to hit players up with ease like Jehad Haddara who nailed three goals, and probably should've been further ahead if not for a resilient Sharks defence which kept the margin to 26-points at the first change.
If the first quarter belonged to Haddara, the second was dominated by Youssef El Hawli who kicked three majors and assisted another with his contested marking a strong feature of his game and was the beneficiary of completely dominant Newport midfield which won clearance after clearance.
Sanctuary Lakes were scoreless to half time and trailed by a deflating 72-points.
A different Sanctuary Lakes side turned up in the third quarter as they neutralised the centre clearances and were able to put far more pressure on Newport's midfield.
Sharks Hayden Vogele slotted a beauty from a tight angle and Jordan Johnson-Boe found targets at ease.
Some uncharacteristic blemishes from Youssef El Hawli in front of goal typified the third quarter for Newport, but they still lead by 63-points heading into the last break.
The sting went out of the game half-way through the last term as Newport kicked five majors with Mitchell Taleb and Chehab El-Dannawi each kicking two goals to help register a comfortable win over a bruised and undermanned Sharks outfit.
Luke Coleiro was a tackling machine, Jordan Johnson-Boe and Adam Elbob used the ball brilliantly and were the best for Sanctuary Lakes.
Newport's Rabih Dannaoui dominated the ruck, Khaled Hawli was all class and Omar Alkantar was full of skill and poise.
The other round 11 game had Werribee Districts running out 99-point winners over the Wyndhamvale Falcons, 14.22. (106) to 1.1. (7), holding them goalless after the first quarter.
Chanse Peixoto was best on ground with two goals, Scott Woods continued his ripping season and Matthew Kaszuba was at his bullocking best for Werribee Districts.
Jayden Short and Dylan Reynolds battled hard and Jhoshuar Dean was the sole goal kicker for the Falcons.
Round 12 will see Sanctuary Lakes host Werribee Districts at Featherbrook Reserve and Albion will face Wyndhamvale as they travel to Wyndhamvale South Oval.
Newport have the bye.
