Thank you to Ben Selby from the Hilltop group and netball star Georgia Martin who helped get Stage Three of the precinct redevelopment over the line at the Shire in the last week of May.
This means work can start on the second netball court, and the new cricket nets (assuming there's no VCAT hearing).
Concerns were raised about the removal of two mature Mountain Ash trees but as was pointed out the trees have been dropping branches and are a danger to people using Olinda Reserve.
To compensate Hilltop and the sports clubs are donating $2,000 so native trees can be planted in more appropriate areas at the precinct.
Meantime the grass is down on the new oval at the old golf course and all going well we'll be training on it, and playing cricket, in February.
This oval will eventually have lights but no fencing because of it's role as a communty meeting place ( Olinda Green).
It's with considerable sadness that we can confirm the passing of Life Member Alma Fowler.
Daughter Jill says her mother passed peacefully in Quensland where she's been living for many years.
Alma was 92 years old. You can learn more abut Alma's Olinda Ferny Creek FNC legacy in our newsletter. Please email email@example.com if you would like to receive a copy.
And more sad news with the passing of former player Ken Childs. Kenny played in the 1950s before joining the police force and being sent to Robinvale where he coached the Eagles to a flag.
The situation regarding the spread of the Covid 19 virus will be continually reviewed and we are hopeful that things will have improved by that date, rather than deteriorated further.
However Victorian Government pandemic projections suggest that may not be the case with the virus to peak in June.
Please continue to support our amazing club and our local business people- this is more important than ever.
Meantime- during these testing times here's some rare good news- work is continuing on the new oval (Olinda Green), which is really taking shape.
As Life Member John Faull warned they have had to dig out truck loads of large boulders.
Congrats to Tyler Belloni for making the Eastern Ranges squad as a 16 year old.
Tyler made his OFCFNC senior debut last season.
Rangers list his key attribute as "explosive speed" and his favourite food as "Snickers". Tyler is the cousin of the Greenall boys Ethan and Hunter.
Its with considerable sadness we report the passing of popular Life Member Kevin Dowsey.
Keva joined the newly amalgamated Olinda-Ferny Creek Club after WW2 and was a constant club fixture up until last season.
He was 93 years of age.
Keva donated many hours to the construction of the clubrooms in 1953 and was a member of the strong OFC teams of the early 1950s, including the 1951 MDFA Grand Final side.
A farewell to Kev was held at the Clubrooms on Monday 13th.
They Sall Not Grow Old.
Congratulations to Yvonne Rankin on winning our Port Douglas Holiday raffle.
We'll even throw in flowers !!!
Second Prize- Ryan Soussa Third Prize- Shane Bear and Amanda Drake
OFCFNC footballers went into the Xmas break on the back of a great final training session.
Head Coach Brendan Donovan invited junior players to join Seniors in a series of "Draft Camp" sessions.
2019 U/18 players Bryce "BJ" Jessop and Connor Keegan were sensational.
BJ's time in the 20m sprint would have put him in the top 10 of the AFL Draft Combine.
Both also performed strongly in the vertical leap which Luke Hill won when he touched out at 81cm. Connor jumped 79cm and BJ 76cm.
Again these results would have seen then top 10 at the AFL Camp.
2019 U/16 skipper and interleague player Brad Langridge won the 2k Time Trial.
Meantime the U/16s are looking for more players in 2020, please spread the word.
Junior Netball Star to play for OFC
A huge OFC welcome to Grace Kelly and her family who have committed to the red and white in 2020.
Grace made the 2018 VNL U/19 team and has now locked down a placed in the Ariels Div 1 side.
She brings a very impressive CV to the 2019 AFL Outer East A Grade premier team.
It's a huge welcome home to the four favourite sons who will be rejoining us in 2020- Patrick and Matt Rosier, Ethan "Botchy" Greenall and Josh Rankin ( who's been travelling around Australia with Romy Schauble).
Our playing list is shaping up as a significant improvement on 2019- and there could be some more names to come.
AFL Outer East has stepped up it's junior netball program and has asked us to field more underage teams in 2020 ( we fielded U/17s in 2019).
If yu have a daughter, neice, sister, friend who wants to get involved in a sensational club with the best coaching structure in Outer East then contact Mattie Blanchard- 0434 401 844
There's is so much happening at OFCFNC it's frankly hard to keep up.
For the first time we (Juniors) are fielding an U/18 girls team ! This will be our (Juniors) fourth girls team , alongside the U/12s,U/14s and U/16s and gives the girls a clear path for progression as they head towards senior footy.
Kylie Gilson has all the details- and wants to hear from potential players !! firstname.lastname@example.org
Meantime netball registrations are underway- and remember we are hoping to field a full range of junior teams in 2020 as well as senior sides. Go to our Facebook page to register online.
It's also a big warm OFC welcome to our new Reserves coaches Jarrod Leather and Troy Pye.
Jayden Faull will be overseeing the very promising group of U/18 players who are starting to move thru the ranks. 2019 coaches Dan Toma and Kelsey Currie will be assisting.
New players who want to join a true family club should call Grant - 0429 361 409
Dual A Grade netball premiership coach Tim Smith has confrmed he'll be the OFC head netball coach in 2020.
Tim has also taken on the challenging role of Championship Coach with VNL Club Ariels. That is indeed a huge win for OFC.
Congrats to our Sports Management Group exec Grant Faull and Matt Blanchard who have scored some big goals with the re-appointments of premiership coaches Brendan (footy) and Tim (netball).
Bell Olinda have a great community initiative underway with free trailer hire to club members.
Speak to Elliot Bell about borrowing the trailer- and PLEASE speak to Elliot if you- or someone you know- is selling a house or just needs an appraisal- 0427 099 880.
And don't forget the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank ( Bendigo Bank at Upwey) are continuing to provide us with financial incentives when an OFCFNC member does business there.
We recently earned $500 thanks to an anonymous member !
