Darrel Luck will be the first player or umpire in Black Diamond AFL History to participate in 300 Black Diamond Cup matches.
Plucka, as he his affectionately known, has umpired in every year of the BDAFL and has notched up a total of 411 BDAFL matches, second behind the legendary John Sullivan. As a field umpire, he has officiated in 402 BDAFL matches.
His tally including 300 Black Diamond Cup Matches, 16 Plate matches, 5 Second Division, 26 Reserve Grade, 52 Under 18s and 3 Women's matches.
Luck has officiated in 7 Black Diamond Cup Grand Finals; 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2015 and has officiated in one Representative Fixture, in 2008, when he officiated in the BDAFL vs North Coast AFL match at Number One Sportsground at Under 18 level. Darrel also officiated in 2 First Division Grand Finals (2012-2013), a Second Division Grand Final (2014), 2 Reserve Grade Grand Finals (2010-2011), 2 Under 18 Grand Finals (2008-2009).
In 2001, 2007 (joint winner) and 2013, Darrel was awarded the NCCUA Umpire of the Year award, as well as the NCCUA Field Umpire of the Year in 2007 and 2013. Darrel has been a magnificent servant to the NCCUA, being awarded the 2005, 2012 and 2013 Club Person of the Year Award for his services to the Association and in 2015 won the Inaugural “President’s Award”.
Darrel is an NCCUA and BDAFL Life Member and an NCCUA Inductee in its Hall of Fame.
Luck served on the NCCUA committee for 13 years, 8 of those as the President of the NCCUA (2006-2013), 1 year as Vice President (2002), 4 years as Committee Member (2000, 2014, 2015, 2016) and one year as co-coach of the Umpiring Group (2000). His commitment to the recruitment, retention and promotion of umpiring in the Hunter / Central Coast Region, is second to none.
Darrel is a name synonymous with umpiring in the Black Diamond AFL and his many achievements, ideas and his love of the association currently make the association what it is today. Recently, Darrel celebrated another milestone, with the both of his daughter, Elise, with his wife Kylie.
