The MCG of the East vast square meters of hallowed turf has been undergoing major works since the end of the 2016 football season as part of the biggest resurfacing of Walker Park in nearly a decade in order to be one of the best playing surfaces for both football and cricket in the city of Whitehorse.
Beginning just after the Eastern Football League division 4 grand final, the work will be completed just in time for the 2017 football season. Truckloads of Santa Anna couch have been brought in, with the playing surface being stripped, re-levelled and watering system up dated.
Club President Matt McCubbin said that The life span of any natural turf sports surface is not infinite and Walker Park is a high-use venue, Strategic turf replacement is crucial to ensuring our playing surface is among the best in the competition and our ground is one of the show pieces of the EFL, Not only hosting Mitcham Football and Cricket Club Senior and Junior Games but also AFL Victoria Junior Metropolitan Championships and EFL finals.
