The Mitcham Football Club as a whole Senior and Junior is dedicated to developing well rounded young Australians through a football environment, which teaches respect, humility, integrity, reward through effort and fair play at all times. We also have strong family values and are of a firm belief that once you’re a tiger you’re a tiger for life and we look after our own. WELL one of our family’s is doing it tough at the moment.

The Gilchrist family have been members of our club since Aus Kick, Jamie is the team manager of the under 10s and son Lachie is a superstar and together with Son / Brother Mitchell and Wife / mother Fiona you couldn’t wish to meet a more up standing family.

Now you see, after surviving cancer as a teen, last year Fiona received the shocking news that cancer had returned and she now has an extremely rare (and aggressive) cancer called leiomyosarcoma.

On a recent family holiday with Jamie and the boys, things took a bad turn, and the tumours in Fee’s abdomen caused her bowel to perforate. Jamie pulled out all stops, and arranged an emergency air evacuation back to Melbourne, in order to save her life. The fact that Fee survived the trip home is nothing short of a miracle (you can read her sister Sarah’s account, for the full harrowing full story @

Following life-saving surgery undertaken at St Vincent’s hospital here in Melbourne, Fiona spent days in an induced coma, and weeks recuperating in hospital. We’re happy to say she is slowly getting stronger, but the next challenge is gearing up for chemotherapy to begin.

Based on the overwhelming requests from people who know and love Fiona and her boys, her friends have decided to set a page to help the Gilchrist family. Please join with us in supporting the beautiful Fiona and her family, in whatever way you can. There are numerous ways you can do so: by giving generously via the crowd funding site, or by donating your time and joining the meal train.
