Under 19's:
Our previous two encounters in the under 19's saw us the more talented and fitter team which enabled us to dictate the tempo of play. Old Geelong were far superior in both fitness and strength and gave us an incredible challenge. We were forced to play defensive football for much of the day considering the talent of our opponents and credit to the team for 3 quarters they stuck to the task. We take away from this game the importance of defensive positioning and 2 way running. Special mention to Tom Wilson for his relentless attack on the football all day and Mitch Holtzhimer for his efforts down back. Congratulations also go to Tom Blanche and Adam Glandville for stepping up to compete in the reserves where they didn't look out of place. The under 19's are looking forward to the challenge of round 1. James Quilty
Reserves:
The last of our practice matches was another good hit out for us, we had a couple of under 19's help out as numbers were down and young Tommy and Dale were terrific. Our 1st qtr was average but after that we improved with good solid predictable footy for each other, Aaron Menzies showed his skills with a great game and first year senior player Sam Beagley shutdown their big full forward. Trav Murphy again dominated the ruck and around the ground. We are looking forward to Rd 1 at home as its been a long pre-season, so let's just get into it! Steve Jordan
Seniors:
Our last practice match against old geelong gave us a final opportunity before round 1 to continue to work on getting our game plan and structures right so we are ready to perform come the start of the season. Unfortunately we got off to a horrible start and slipped into some very bad habits and were handed a reality check by a much more disciplined and focused team. To our credit after addressing these issues at quarter time we were able to get back on track and play the brand of footy that is needed to be successful this season. Overall to finish the pre season 3-0 is a positive start to the season, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Thanks to the junior club for setting up the BBQ and to all the supporters who came out to watch. See you all in round 1. Neil Winterton
