Our U9 teams have been having some great contests with the Yeronga teams this year and it was no different this week when when the mighty U9 Gold's took on Yeronga Black. You might have thought that the boys would be a bit rusty after the break but it must have done them good as they came back with a good training session on Friday and then a great game on Saturday where they listened to and implemented the coaches instructions to be first to the ball and mark their players closely.
The boys improved on their performance of a few weeks ago against the same team with strong contested work and tackling and improved ball use under pressure, getting it to team mates with better directed kicks and hand balls. The improved kicking of many of the boys with well directed and weighted kicks has been really noticeable the last couple of games. Contesting for the football is central to the game and the progress that many boys have made this year in that regard is really pleasing as well.
There were good performances across the team this week but our players of the week were Finn for an improved effort to win and use the ball and George for another great display of contested footy.
