U11 - Pizza Capers Match Report

The Mighty Kenmore Bears U11's arrived at Sherwood expecting a tough contest. With a late withdrawal due to an injury to key ruckman George, and Hayden still sidelined with a broken finger we elevated Mitch from the U10's to the U11's.

The boys are having an indifferent season. We're playing our best footy at home and haven't dropped a game yet so the challenge was to replicate that form at our away matches.

It was a great start to the game with a quick clearance out of the middle and a goal to Aidan T with a nice dribble kick (Wingard style) off the end of his boot. From there it was a see sawing contest with Sherwood having multiple entries into their forward line. Our backs held strong though with Jay fighting hard at ground level, Henry ducking and weaving and Sam with his quick hands. James was at his explosive best out of the packs. Cody in his first season continues to improve week on week taking a couple of great grabs down the wing.

The boys were under the pump but responded well with some hard tackling earning themselves a number of free kicks. Mitch worked hard and relished the step up to U11's, Ethan was a dominant force in ruck but unfortunately copped an injury to his ankle so couldn't take to the field in the last quarter. Aaron stood his ground at centre half back using his strong body to repel some of the Sherwood boys. Thom and Ben combined well in the midfield with some great run and carry out the middle, Aidan L continued his great work at ground level with some hard ball gets and clearance whilst Zander intercepted a couple of handballs from Sherwood which no doubt saved a couple of goals.

One of the highlights was Sarnavan at centre half forward kicking a "torp" which had that much airtime I'm sure air traffic control picked it up on the radar!

All in all it was a good hard contest. Although the result didn't go their way the boys fought the battle to the end.

They return home this week to face Ambrose Treacy. With a couple of ex-bears in their side they boys are keen to give them a warm reception...........
