Return to Footy 2020

Hi Jags parents and players

I hope everyone has been able to stay safe during this extremely challenging time and I hope everyone has been following our updates, our online competitions and enjoyed meeting our coaches and committee via the web.

Over the past few weeks, the club has been working closely with the AFLQ to understand both the state government and the new national health guidelines that are required for us to be able to reopen the club and recommence our season.

I’m very pleased to announce that we have now met all the requirements and have all the necessary health protocols in place to be able to safely recommence training as early as next week. The additional costs incurred as part of implementing these protocols will be meet partly through your current registration fees and the additional cookie dough fundraiser held recently.

Your coaches will be in contact with you very shortly to fully outline the protocols the club has put into place and to discuss new training times. Initially, to adhere to stage 2 restrictions, our sessions will be no contact and more spread out over the week. They will be shorter in duration to reduce cross over of teams and training restricted to groups of 20. Coaches are included in this number so some rostering within teams may be required. Hand sanitizer will be available at the club for players at all times and equipment will be cleaned with sanitizer before and after each session. Change rooms and wet areas will remain closed and designated entry and exit points will also be set up to assist with the safe movement of players. As well as each of these measures, every coach has committed to undertaking the “COVID returning to community football protocol course” to ensure the safest possible environment for all involved.

Although the exact dates are not known yet, the season proper (junior and youth) is expected to begin mid July and consist of roughly 14 games (may include finals for youth). Senior football is expected to start approximately at the same time and the season will consist of 8-10 games plus finals. We will keep you updated as more competition information is made available by the league.

In other exciting news, we have had official hand over from the council for the main oval, timing of this could not have worked out better, it is truly a fantastic surface for both games and training and we look forward to getting out there and put it to some use.

It feels really good after a tough couple of months to be able to reopen the club and start getting back to footy. I would sincerely like to thank you all for your patience and your commitment to the club over the these past few months and I look forward to working with everyone to make 2020 a season to remember for all involved.

As always please feel free to call or email at any time if there is anything you would like to clarify or discuss.

Kind Regards,

Wayne Poole - President
