GET TO KNOW YOUR COACH - Under 13’s – Glenn Smith

Glenn Smith is the newly appointed Head Coach for the Under 13’s in the upcoming season, and this is his first time in the hot seat.

Last season he was Assistant Coach with the Under 12’s, and with his history as Assistant Coach with the Pine Rivers Swans for two years previously, he’s keen to make the Under 13’s his own.

Glenn played at Windsor-Zillmere as a young lad from Under 8’s, and has played ever since (on and off) both here and in Wollongong.  He’s also still donning the boots in the Masters competition with the Northern Stars.

Glenn’s main focus in his first year of coaching is to encourage fun and develop teamwork.  He’s looking forward to having a structured but flexible training plan.

“I want to start the season by assessing the team, working together and building on the strengths we have, while also improving the teams’ ability to play structured football.”

“I’ll have a training plan for the season, but I’ll adapt that based on the needs of the players and where we need to develop. I’d also like plenty of input from the players into how we play and train. I want to help them go as far as they can.”

Glenn, together with his wife Tarnia, has an Under 13’s footballer, and netball playing daughters.  He works on community facilities, sport & recreation projects with Brisbane City Council, and also enjoys a healthy lifestyle with an exercise physiology background.

“First and foremost it’s about having fun and I want the team to enjoy playing and training. I’d like to invite the players and their parents down to the club on Thursday 4 December at 5:30pm to introduce myself, talk about my plans for next season and answer any questions.  From there, I see us starting training in late January/early February so that we’re game ready when the first siren sounds.”
