The Southport Sharks U18 Colts picked up the minor Premiership with a 14/2 win / loss for the year and 4 games clear on the ladder. The Sharks Colts managed to lead the points for and also had the least amount scored against throughout the season.
Finals footy sore the Sharks with a home semi final at Fankhauser Reserve hosting 2nd place team Maroochydore. Having only lost 2 games all season the Sharks were looking good to move straight into the finals, however Maroochydore turned up to give the home side a 10 goal hiding to book themselves straight into the Grand Final.
The following week Southport hosted the Preliminary Final V Noosa on a day alligned with the Southport Sharks NEAFL teams home knockout final V Aspley.
The Sharks Colts held control of the game against Noosa buy a tight margin before kicking away in the last qtr to book the home teams spot in the Grand Final and face the team that delivered a 10 goal hiding only 1 week before.
Grand Final day at Yeronga started early with the game kicking off at 9am. Both teams fired early in a high pace game that sore a total of 13 goals kicked in the first Qtr, with the Sharks in front by 3 points at the break, by half time the Roo's took the lead by 1 point. A classic game of footy continued after the break with the Sharks run and carry pushing the pace, straight kicking between the big sticks made the difference in favour of the Sharks by the break.
The Premiership QTR kicked off in same mould as at game start, the scoreboard slowed as both teams piled on relentless pressure giving the crowd a great spectacle. The Sharks pushed it out to 19 points before the final siren sounded.
The Southport Sharks Colts Crowned Premiers for 2018 Dillon Lewis also picked up Best on Ground for his haul of 8 Goals.
Southport Sharks NEAFL continued their form handing Sydney Swans a hiding in the NEAFL Grand Final the day after picking up their first Premiership since joining the NEAFL Competition.
