The Newcastle City Australian Football Club was saddened to hear of the passing of one of our members, Kenneth Dawes, father of Owen and Jacob Dawes.
Kenneth Allan Dawes passed away peacefully on Sunday night, following a long and courageous battle with brain cancer, aged 60. A very bright light was extinguished way too early.
Ken was a dearly loved husband to his wife Jenny, a proud father of 7 children (6 boys and 1 daughter) – Owen (eldest), Karl Leith, Rhys, Jacob, Vincent & Sarah (youngest). A dear father-in-law and friend to Jessica, Sherrene, Corrie, Lacey, Victoria, Carly, & Simon. Dearest pop of Amelia & Sibella, Isaac & Hannah, and Florence.
Ken was a highly respected science & chemistry teacher at Whitebridge High school, and highly sought after chemistry tutor. He was keen sportsman playing competitive Cricket, Australian Football, and Baseball, plus being and avid golfer at Charlestown Golf Club.
Ken was usually spotted supporting the Blues in the right forward pocket at the western end of the ground. He was very proud to have seen both Owen and Jacob win Premier Division premierships with City, despite having been a Wallsend player from years ago. He was immensely proud of his boy’s achievements, and will be sadly missed around the club on game day.
The Club wishes to send its sincere condolences to the extended Dawes family.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held this Friday at 2:15pm, at Lake Macquarie Memorial Park.
