PARENTS, COACHES & MANAGERS - ROLES & RESPONSIBILITES

Strathdale Soccer Club is a volunteer club, and as one of the largest junior soccer clubs in Victoria the need for parent volunteers is not only preferable, but essential.

Parental Responsibility:

SSC has the expectation that for each junior team, from U6 to U16 the parent group of the players will provide a coach and a team manager for the season.

Where a parent is not the coach or team manager, parents will be expected to undertake the following:

  • on gameday, parents will take their turn to ensure the smooth running of a game through taking their turn as lines person, ground marshall, setting up or packing away the field their childs team is playing on.
  • uphold the standards of BASLs codes of conduct at all times during all matches and training.
supporting their teams coach and team manager by offering help as required, refraining from criticism, retaining an optimistic / positive attitude at all times.
  • support your children’s soccer by ensuring that your child is able to get to and from training and games in a timely manner.
  • It is expected that someone is there to pick up your child at the designated completion times of games and training or alternative arrangements have been made
  • it is club recommendation that all players should be ready for each game at least 15-30 minutes prior to published start time – this allows the teams coach to run pre-game warm-ups and provide instructions.
  • notification of any absence to games or training is considered a matter of courtesy to all other team members and should be done at all times as soon as the intended absence is recognised
  • ensuring that your child has access to water for each game and training session (drink bottles).
  • promote good behaviour at all times by applauding both your own and opposition teams good play, supporting team officials and referees, refraining from any offensive behaviour and abiding by all rules
  • ensure your child has the correct gear at training and matches, including Strathdale Shorts and Socks, soccer boots and shinguards, mouthguard is option but recommended.

Coaching Responsibility:

Every team must have a nominated coach. The coach is expected to be a responsible adult. SSC does not supply coaches – they are expected to come from within ranks of each team’s parents as a volunteer. SSC will supply each team training balls, cones, bibs, etc and will provide field space at Strathdale Park for the coach to hold training.

Each coach is expected to

  • Take responsibility for the team for each game,
  • Schedule and run a training session once a week at Strathdale Park. Some teams may not train by consensus however if an individual player wishes to train then the coach should provide that opportunity by negotiating with another like team.
  • The coach has absolute authority over the team during training and games.
  • The coach will ensure that every player has significant time on the field, which will be no less than 2/3rds of each half of the game. This is on the proviso players do the right thing, arriving early to matches and, are not injured during the game.
  • The coach is also responsible for the on field behaviour of the players. SSC expects coaches and players to abide by BASLs published codes of conduct. There should be no abuse of other players, referees or other designated officials. All individuals are expected to be treated responsibly and respectfully at all times.
  • Any disputes or objections should be managed through the appropriate channels.
  • If the coach is another child (U18) then it is expected that they will be supported by the presence of a suitable parent at all times during training and games.
  • The Coach will apply for and hold a valid Working With Children (WWC) check.

Team Managers Responsibility:

Every team must have a nominated team manager. The team manger is expected to be a responsible adult. SSC does not supply team managers – they are expected to come from within ranks of each team’s parents as a volunteer. Team mangers are expected to support the coach and undertake the administrative functions of the team.

On a weekly game basis this includes:-

  • Ensuring that the team scoresheet is filled out correctly in time for the game and the team has a scorer. Access to SportsTG will be provided to the team manager so they can enter the match scores each week.
  • Prepare team rosters for lines duty, ground marshall duty, canteen duty, etc.
  • Ensure the behaviour of the team as a whole is adequate. This includes the behaviour of the coach, the players and associated team supporters.

At the start and completion of the season the Team Manager will:-

  • At the start of the season, collect and distribute the Team Strips to the players from the club.
  • Collect and return the Team Strips back to the club at the end of the season.
  • The Team Manager will apply for and hold a valid Working With Children (WWC) check.

Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
