Once you’re a Tiger you’re always a Tiger and the Mitcham Football Club was informed this weekend that a good Mitcham Man, Mal Reid known as “Reidy” who use to coach juniors at the club in the 1980s has been diagnosed with MND. A few days before Christmas in 2018 Mal had an operation on his neck with doctor’s suggesting a speedy recovery. Unfortunately, Mal’s recovery was longer than expected and his doctors were stumped as to why. After many tests and further appointments at the start of 2020 he was diagnosed with MND. Mal’s health has continued to deteriorate and he is now wheelchair bound.
Current Under 19s coach Mark Brindley said that “Apart from Mal being a ripping bloke, he was also an excellent coach and had a lot of success coaching Juniors at the club. Many of the boys he coached went on to play senior football for the club”. A member of the building committee back in the 1980s hopefully we can get Mal back to the club to check out our latest renovations.
The Mitcham Football Club is already committed to the sockit2MND awareness round for #fightMND on June 19-21. Anyone else looking to support the MND cause can do so by visiting the online MND Store (Link Below )
