A cracking day at MCG of The East LAST WEEK with the Netball girls recording a win,Tigers under 19s and Seniors both going down and the Reserves recording a stirring victory. A large crowd attended our Presidents lunch with the Whitehorse Mayor Andrew Davenport announcing that (subject to passing at the June Council meeting); $2.07mill will be provided by Council for the refurbishment of the Walker Park pavilion. This will combine with the $400K already committed by the federal minister for Deakin, Michael Sukkar MP, to provide $2.47 mill for the upgrade.
Guest speaker at the luncheon Richmond Star Alex Rance was highly entertaining in an open and honest Q&A session with our very own Gavin Ward. The day was also a brutal reminder of how precious life is, With a Mitcham Supporter suffering a medical emergency during the lunch and we are pleased to say he is doing fine in hospital. A big shout out to The Mitcham and Lilydale Trainers who assisted. We also had young Cancer patient Jett with us and it’s fair to say he got a real buzz out of chatting with Alex Rance, who we might add was absolutely amazing

Under 19s Coach Report
Once again we took on one of the powerhouse teams of the competition & after working hard on the track this week we welcomed the opportunity to measure our improvement from the lesson we all received last week. Pressure, run hard both ways and quick ball movement were the key components of our game. Thats what the boys delivered and even though we were goaless at 1/2 time we held them to 4, while We had let a couple of good chances slip. The 2nd half seen the bigger more experienced stronger & cleaner lilydale side slowly edge further in front but this young developing team of ours stuck at it & were still playing good attacking footy all the way to the end. This group of boys all play 19s again next year & only our 4th game together yesterday was a very big step in their developement & the scores did not reflect how well we played Goals J Hilton Best G Laughlin H Prout D Veenendaal J Powson B Ajani

Reserves Coach Report
First win for year! Great result for the boys as we had a solid 4 qtr performance with our pressure, intensity and structures being terrific. With 7 changes from the week before due to injury the boys that came in stood up and took their chances, Zack Elms played his first game and was clearly dominated the ruck, our on ballers were outstanding with Roddy crashing in hard all day, Jesse Cherry was our best kicking 3 and being super on ball his ability to just make things happen was fantastic. Our circle in singing the song was unusual as we had 10 new players celebrating their first win for the club! Very pleased with our efforts as we build together as a group, thanks to everyone who came and supported the boys, see you all next week against Wantirna Sth.

Senior Coach Report
This week we hosted Lilydale who were coming off a big 11 goal win against Bayswater, so we knew it would be a tough match. We started the game slowly and they were able to get on top around the stoppages and opened up a 5 goal buffer 10 minutes into the 2nd quarter. From that point our pressure lifted and we were able to move the ball much more cleanly into our forward line putting their defence under pressure. We kicked the next 4 goals and went into the half time break 9 point down.We knew that Lilydale would come out breathing fire in the 3rd quarter, unfortunately we were unable to respond when they challenged us and they went away from us to win comfortably by 62 points. There were positives though with the 2nd quarter showing that we can mix it with the best teams when we get our game going, the challenge is to be able to sustain it for longer periods.Carson McCartney was fantastic all day across half back and Matt Gordon battled hard all day at CHF and in the ruck. Thanks to all the supporters who came to support us and the club at the Presidents lunch, it was a fantastic turn out. We look forward to seeing you all again this week at home against Wantirna Sth.
