1st XVIII battled hard against a very tall and powerful Donny East combination to go down by 40 points. We had our chances early but couldn’t convert and after trailing by only 9 points at half time a 8 goal to 4 second half had us licking our wounds. Once again the McCubbin boys were very good and Ruddy solid down back. WELL done to Jake Parente and James McCubbin for good performances in the under 19 interleague the other week as well.
2nd XVIII faired a lot better with a solid win over the lions, as our youth really starts to shine and our depth has never been better. Unlike the senior game we controlled the second half and made the most of our opportunities. Glanville and Gordon were amongst the goals and Joseph again named best. On a sour note Reserves captain Matt Beagley suffered a depressed fracture above his left eye and will need surgery to repair the damage - Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
BIG THANK YOU to the Doncaster East Football Club for their hospitality during and after the game we look forward to returning the favour later in the year for the return bout.
JUNIORS - GREAT night last Friday with the junior’s food truck night with over 400 people in attendance. With plenty of good food and a great atmosphere, how appropriate after the passing of the late and great Lou Richards they held old fashioned club corner. Our junior club continues to grow and their innovation never creases to amaze.
NEXT WEEK Another tough encounter against the Lilydale Falcons @ the MCG of the East, we expect nothing less than two tough games of footy in what should be an entertaining contest. We hope the Lilydale folk enjoy our hospitality before, during and after the game

Reserves Coaches Report
Really pleased with our win this week against a side that moves the ball well and on their deck, I asked the team for a response after last games loss to Croydon and to their credit they did, it was pretty even at halftime after kicking 4 goals in the 1st qtr, the second qtr saw them kick 4 and they're mids were well on top. The boys came out for the second half and really lifted the work rate to kick away and never let them back in it booting 10 goals to 3 for the half and run out winners by 7 goals. Our mids in the 2nd half were super Rambo, Tayles, Bluey, Menz and I asked Johlen and Tezza to do a job and they did which was great as we lost Beags in the 2nd qtr with a head injury, we wish him a quick recovery. Josh Kable got on top in the ruck and our back 6 rebounded all day with BJ showing his abilities again kicking 3 and Matt Gordon was a solid target all day with 5 goals. All in all a pleasing team performance with even contributions across the board, this leaves us well placed 4-1 with another big challenge against Lilydale on Saturday. Thanks to all that travelled to support us, your just awesome!

Senior Coaches Report
We travelled out to Doncaster East this week to take on a strong outfit that sat 2nd on the ladder, we knew this would be a good test for us and let us know where we were at with our form. We started really well kicking the first couple of goals and probably should've been further in front but missed a couple of easy chances, Doncaster East hit back like good sides do and scores were level at quarter time. In the 2nd quarter we lost our way for a 10 minute period after a positive start and went into halftime down by 9 points. We got back on track early in the 3rd quarter playing better footy but again lost concentration for the last 10-12 minutes and conceded 4 goals to give them a 5 goal lead at 3/4 time. We kicked the first 2 goals early in the last quarter to give ourselves a chance but unfortunately couldn't sustain the effort and ended up going down by 40 points. It was a good lesson for the group to see what is required in terms of concentration and buying in to the way we want to play, if we can't sustain our efforts for longer periods we won't be able to compete with the best teams in the competition. Thanks to all the supporters for coming out and cheering us on, we hope to see you all back at home this week against lilydale
