Great to return home last week even if the under 19s had another bye as we welcomed the Mooroolbark footy club to the MCG of the East. The reserves rued the early goals they conceded and went down by a couple As for the Seniors they hung tough for 3 quarters before being run over by one of the teams to beat this year.
Sometimes it’s not whether we win or loose but can we make a difference..... Last WEEK the Mitcham Football Club stood tall and brought some joy to a young man and the Entire Gilchrist family WELL DONE to Matt McCubbin, Neil Winterton, Julz Petracca and all the Mitcham Football Club Players, the Mooroolbark footy club and the EFL umpires for the respect shown THANK YOU #fightforfee #wearefamily BIG THANK YOU to our resident photographers Graham Bradtke and Aly Waters for capturing the moment check out a short Video @

While the footy Saturday arvo wasn’t to our liking, Saturday night certainty was, with over 300 people in attendance as the club hosted the annual comedy night in conjunction with the juniors. Well done to all involved - the room looked magnificent and the entertainment a real hoot.
Reserves Coaches Report
Big game for both sides as we were equal on points with four wins each, slippery conditions as drizzle fell all game so it was a real contested brand of footy all day. Our starts this year have been average and this week was probably our worst 1st qtr with a 1 goal to 5 score line, missed opportunities cost us dearly and our accountability saw them run the ball far to easily. The second qtr was a even contest as we started to get on our hands on the footy and lift our accountability. The second half was very pleasing as got within 10 points and really played the better footy by out scoring them by close to 3 goals, however the damage was done in the first qtr as we went down by 15 points. Danger Glanville continued to show great form as was our best with 3 goals and really could have been 5 in wet conditions, Adam Dale across half fwd was terrific all day with his work rate up and down the grd and John Feeney kept their FF quiet after he kicked 3 in the first half. Our effort and endeavour I can't question we really cracked in but at this level you just can't drop off in qtrs as sides will make you pay. We headed to Mulgrave with a must win to stay in touch, thanks to all the supporters who came out on a miserable day to watch us, the boys really appreciate you all being there.
Senior Coaches Report
This week we had a tough assignment against top of the table Mooroolbark. Coming off a good win last week it was going to be good to see how we stacked up against the bench mark. The first quarter was even with both sides having opportunities in their forward 50 and at the quarter time break we trailed by 1 goal. Mooroolbark got right on top in the 2nd quarter and disappointingly we were unable to respond when the heat was applied and we trailed by 34 points at half time. After conceding a goal in the first minute of the third quarter we lifted our intensity around the contest and got on top, unfortunately we missed a few chances and closed the gap to 4 goals at 3 quarter time. In the last quarter some errors and poor decision making cost us dearly as we ended up going down by 9 goals. Julz Petracca led from the front all day with his attack on the man and the ball.
The most important part of the day though was having Lachie Gilchrist as our co captain for the day, it was an absolute privilege to have Lachie involved in the day and I could tell by the look on his face that he enjoyed it as well. Thanks to all our supporters who came out in cold and wet conditions, hopefully we see you all out at Mulgrave next week for a very important game
