AFL Victoria have released the framework for the Player Points System which is to be implemented for the 2016 season as part of the Community Club Sustainability Program (CCSP).
The Eastern Football League has endorsed the adoption of the policy which will come into effect ahead of the 2016 season. Based on playing history and performances at various levels, a player will be assigned a points figure which will count towards the teams overall points allocation which, in 2016 will be 50 points for the selected 22.
Through the testing phase there were some significant differences between EFL clubs. Some clubs were comfortably under the 50 point threshold whilst others were into the low 60’s on any given week – interestingly the teams with a higher points were not necessarily better performing.
With a total team point’s value at 50, each player is worth around 2.3 points when averaged across the 22, meaning clubs will benefit from developing the youth within the club.
The system rewards clubs who develop home grown talent and focus on increasing the strength of their junior and Under 19’s programs.
The complete policy can be found HERE
Below is a table breakdown of each of the six player categories;
Note – One point remains the lowest allocation a player can have.
