On what was a far from perfect day for football, the Eagles were unable to get the job done against Waubra despite being in with a chance for most of the game. At the end of the day however it was the Kangaroos winners by 29 points.
With a strong breeze favouring one end of the ground, Gordon were able to come in even with the opposition at half time. Having wasted some early opportunities, the Eagles were still in a position that they had rarely been in this season and hopeful of a strong second half. With Gordon kicking the first goal of the thrid quarter, some may have sensed an upset was on the cards. But, the more experienced Waubra team unleashed 7 unanswered goals and by three quarter time had essentially put the game out of reach.
Four goals to two in the last term in favour of Gordon was not nearly enough. The coach and assistants expressed their dissapointment in the players after the match which hopefully can spark the team into a more consistent performance next round.
Better players for the Eagles were Mark Gunnell, Mick Horan, Anson Pellissier and Paul Amos.
The reserves did not fair any better and were on the receiving end of a 10 goal loss. They looked an outside chance after kicking three goals (two from Sean Nestor) in the first quarter but then failed to register another major for the game.
Matt Christie, Stu Miller, Tim Nicholson, John Manchee, Craig Youlden and BJ Eastwood were named as the best players on the ground for Gordon.
The under 18s had a hard day at the office going down by two hundred plus points. Jason Whittingham-Scott, Brandon Lazzo, Gerrard Clifford, Brayden McCormick, William Shawcroft and Rikee Triance battled hard without much reward.
The under 15s had the bye this week but will be looking to continue their winning streak after the mid-season break.
