Another improved effort produced by the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at the Gordon Recreation Reserve was once again not enough as Dunnstown walked away with the four points. As in previous weeks, Gordon started slowly and at quarter time were down by 26 points. For the next three quarters the two teams all but matched each other on the scoreboard with the Towners eventually winning by 29 points.
Coach, Craig Baker explained to the players after the match that he was disappointed and frustrated with the poor display in the first quarter but intended to stay positive and highlighted efforts from the remainder of the match against the fourth placed opposition.
Adam Turley again led the way with a brilliant game in the midfield and snared 2 goals. He was well supported by captain Nathan Rogers, Ash Munari (3 goals), Daniel James and Mark and Luke Gunnell.
Again the seniors can take a lot of positives out of the game but will need to continue to work hard to be competitive for the duration of their games ahead.
Early on the reserves looked like they might be half a chance to snare a rare victory as Dunnstown kicked inaccurately to lead by just 7 points at half time. However, any hope was soon put to rest as the Towners piled on 6 goals in the thrid term then 8 goals in the fourth to run away with a convincing victory.
For the Eagles Scott Quemard and BJ Eastwood starred and were joined in the best players by Jason Rae, John Manchee, Jarrod Dawson and Billy Burrows.
Unfortunately, the under 18s were handed a mighty thrashing by their opponents and would be certainly looking to improve next round. Kurt Hector, Jordan Clampit, Rikee Triance and Clifford Jones battled hard as did Brayden McCormick and Jason Whittingham-Scott against a much stronger outfit.
Again leaving the best until last; the under 15s had another convincing win. The young guys are really showing up the older blokes with their fifth win for the year. They are now sitting eighth on the ladder and automatically gain 4 points this weekend with the bye. Better players on Saturday were Jack Toohey, Gerrard Clifford, William Shawcroft, Zac Pritchard, Jesse Pritchard and Jack Oostendorp. Keep up the good work boys!
