The club have been working hard during the off season to ensure we added some talented and successfull footballers to the already committed list of 2010.
Anthony Faulkner, James Halstead (Scoresby), Mark Emmerson (Wantirna South), Craig Christie, David Caione, Zac Bell (The Basin) all put pen to paper prior to the christmas break showing their committment to the rest of the group.
The club has also managed to secure the signature of X Mitcham/Melbourne/Norwood player Simon Godfrey. Simon played for the Tigers in the U18's before being drafted to Melbourne at pick 14 in the 2000 National AFL Draft. After playing 105 games for the Demons, Simon moved to EFL club Norwood at the start of the 2008 season. Simon was made captain of the club in 2010 and led his team into Norwoods first ever Divison One finals series.
Simon comes home to Mitcham in 2011 to help bolster our young midfield group. At 30 years of age Godfrey will bring invaluable leadership for our younger players with his experiences at both AFL and Divison 1 level. The opportunity to play with younger brother Jack and the chance to play a part in Mitcham's EFL revival were good enough reasons to help Simon make his way home. I look forward to seeing Godders (Snr) have a major impact around the club both on and off the field.
In other positive news Brad Jenkinson, Steve Kenny, Josh Hewitt and Patty Spendlove have all recovered from their 2010 season ending injuries and are back into full training as we move into the vital stages of pre season. These players will have an immediate impact on-field for the Tigers while they are fit and firing!
2011 membership forms will arrive in the mail shortly or will be available on the clubs website.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our Round 1 clash at Walker Park. Remember to renew your memberships and be part of the Tigers in 2011.
