Newly-recruited forward Marcus Kenny made a sensational start to the season, bagging six goals in his first match for the Tigers, but coach Scott Homewood was down-playing the hype that has many suggesting Mitcham could challenge for the premiership.
"Until the season starts settling down, anyone can make those sorts of comments in the early stages," Homewood said.
"It's too early to tell how well every side is going to go.
"Coldstream will respond from the weekend and I still expect them to play finals."
Mitcham, however, showed it won't need to rely on goals from Kenny in order to win, with the Tigers boasting eight multiple-goalkickers among 12 individual goalscorers in the 28.19 (187) to 12.15 (87) hammering at Walker Park.
David Searl booted five goals while James Quilty kicked two and Josh Appleton kicked three.
"A lot of the goals came from general play as well," Homewood said.
"It was a pleasing sign because it means we don't have to work as hard to get our goals."
The match was as good as sealed after the Tigers blasted twelve goals to three in the first quarter to lead by 55 points at the break.
The margin blew out to 93 points at half-time after the Tigers limited Coldstream to 0.2 in the second quarter.
"I knew the boys would give a competitive effort, but to come away with a 100-point win was a big surprise," Homewood said.
"There were pleasing signs from the boys and we hope to continue that sort of form next week.
"Their work rate and intensity, they had a clear hunger for wanting to win."
