Maryborough Junior Football
Junior Football in Maryborough Prior to the introduction of the Maryborough Junior Football Club consisted of Yates Stars and the Mini League. The competition consisted of Junior's Up to the Age of 12.
The Maryborough Football Club Comittee decided at a meeting in 1978 that the club should enter a maryborough junior side in the Ballarat Football League junior section in an endeavour to implement youth in the senior section as a long term project.
The club entered a under 14 and a under 16 side in the Ballarat junior section. Sub committees were formed for both sides. Ron Cloke, Ken Gibbs, Neil Stubbs and Ron Britten recruited many talented youngsters for the unders 14 side with the majority of the players coming from the mini league competition. Noel Barnes, Don Ferguson and Don Cassidy had the task of recruiting an under 16 side.
Both sections were introduced with the help of former players Nev Oliver, Fred Pascoe and Doug Rowe with the basic skills & fundamentals of football to be sucessful in senior football.
