In perfect conditions we set out to redeem ourselves after a shocking performance against Mordialloc in round 2. The vibe was good with a couple of handy inclusions, and it didn’t take long for Mark Williams to make his presence felt, marking strongly after a cleverly centered ball from Travis Skidmore. Mordialloc hit back following a goal from a dubious free kick. The backline was repelling everything that came down. A spectacular run from Brendan set up Willo for his second from the term.
Mordialloc failed to capitalise on their attacking opportunities with the breeze in the second term, again held up by the likes of Donahoo, Heuvel and McMurray in the backline. Despite having most of the play, it was the good guys who posted the first major of the term through Travis Skidmore. Minutes later, it was Skiddy on the end of some fine work from Daniel McKee for his second of the term. The brothers Scott were battling hard in the middle, aided by some good ruck work from Dean Kovacic. Williams kicked his third before Mordi hit back just before half time.
The bloods started the second half with two quick goals to reduce the margin to 11 points, before a steadier from Williams. Another goal to Mordialloc from a free kick near three quarter time set up an intriguiging last quarter as we led by only 21 points with the visitors finishing with the aid of a strengthening breeze.
Brad Scott started the quarter with a quick goal after receiving from Skiddy to extend the lead to a seemingly safe 27 points. Mordialloc would not be denied and hit back instantly. The visitors were finishing strongly and just when it appeared we had stopped, a spark came in the form of some Vassallo magic, producing two goals from nothing. Mordialloc kicked 6 goals in the last term to get within a kick. They had one final chance from a kick out, but when Nigel Scott marked spectacularly, the game was ours for the keeping. Well done lads
Riley's Rampagers continued on their finals march with a crushing win. A lazy eight for the coach and a career best 4 goals from Adam Champion (yes he is still playing) were the catalyst for the win. Mark Riley also kicked four whilst Luke Swan and Tate McKee were among the best for the juggernaut.
