We were made to pay the price for a few patches of bad football on Saturday. It was another Saturday in which we encountered a fierce wind, this time at Mordialloc. Kicking into it in the first quarter, our cause was made more difficult when we had the only player sent off from a twenty person melee.
Below: Matt Thompson flys.
We defended reasonably well given the conditions, conceding four goals. Our work with the wind was not great. We had enough forward entries but the quality of delivery was poor. We continually pumped the ball in deep and played into the hands of the extra defenders. Our forwards did not work well enough to split up the defence. Mordialloc scored a goal into the wind which hurt or cause. Our two majors with the wind were not enough.
Tyson Bramble was among the best.
We were held scoreless in the third term as the wind continued to howl. Mordialloc booted another four goals with the wind with ball spending the entire quarter in one pocket. Although we held Mordialloc scoreless and kicked four of our own in the last term, the damage was done and we went down by four goals.
Below: Matt Campbell roves.
Justin Doust was a pillar of strength on the last line of defence. Tyson Bramble continued his late season form whilst Jordan and Ryan Wachter were also among the best. Lance Baptist and Matt Campbell could also hold their heads high. Our effort could not be questioned and we probably didn’t have the rub of the green. However, we lost concentration at vital moments and were made to pay.
Our reserves season took a turn south as we lost a crucial match. With a host of talent out of the senior and reserves sides through injury, it’s a credit to our lads that we our season is still alive. Best players included Aiden Jolly, Brad Scott, Pete Ramsay, Luke Dovaston and Brad Wilson. Terrific to see Lee Grech back and among the best.
