Over the Easter break, a group of men from the Lancefield area set off to walk the Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea. Whilst learning about the exploits of our forefathers on the track, the group was also able to provide valuable sporting equipment and clothing to some of the local villagers.
The children pictured are from the village of Kagi, which is around about half way along the now famous walk. This is the home village of the fantastic porters provided by Peter Miller at No Roads Expeditions. Upon arrival to the village, the group was set upon by children in battle costume, and then welcomed by the children and their families with songs.
Upon settling in to the village, each father presented some of the children with a Lancefield Junior Football Club training jumper and a football. The smiles on the childrens faces and their appreciation will never be forgotten by all present. The group hopes to continue their involvement with the Kagi village in the future, and will be watching the deveopment of the "Kagi Tigers" very closely.
