Dandenong Southern Stingrays continue to lead the way in promoting Australian Football participation opportunities for young indigenous boys and girls.
Over 150 people gathered at Shepley Oval last Friday for the Stingrays indigenous football night which included trials for the boys and girls KickStart Program.
From these trials, the players eventually selected in the KickStart squads will play in the KickStart National Championships later in the year.
Along with on field nurturing of their football talent KickStart participants will also experience a number of personal development opportunities that focus on healthy living and education.
In a pleasing sign for organisers, the Dandenong Southern Stingrays Koorie Auskick registered 35 participants with this number expected to grow.
In one of the highlights of the night, Aunty Di Kerr performed a Welcome to Country, while Hawthorn footballer Jed Anderson spoke at the event and was involved in the KickStart trials.
The event was also supported by the City of Greater Dandenong and South East Metro Medicare Local, with the Dandenong Co-op healthy lifestyle team in attendance.
