Round 15, Eastern Ranges v Geelong Falcons, Sunday July 31st, Box Hill City Oval, 2pm.
Winning their past two games, the Eastern Ranges have steadied a season that looked to be on an unstoppable downward spiral after losing five games in a row from rounds 8-12. Falling outside of the top eight during this time; they have now clawed their way back to 7th position and will be aiming to hold onto this spot with only three home and away games remaining.
This task will not be made easy as they take on the top of the table Geelong Falcons this Sunday afternoon. However, this will prove a good test for a relatively inexperienced Ranges side that will look to cause a major upset and record their third win on the trot. Eastern will meet a somewhat vulnerable Geelong side, who are coming off the back of a surprise loss to the Gippsland Power last week, having also lost two of their past three matches.
During the week five Ranges players were lucky enough to be invited to this year’s AFL Draft Combine, they were Dylan Clarke, Joshua Begley, Jack Maibaum, Callum Brown and Jordan Gallucci. Of those five Begley and Gallucci will take to the field this weekend.
It is sure to be an interesting affair.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Nathan Mullenger-McHugh
Mullenger-McHugh has impressed this season, particularly in recent weeks, being named in the best on three occasions from Easterns past four matches. Playing predominately as secondary ruckman/forward to Sam Hayes, Mullenger-McHugh has had 82 hit-outs during this time, including a massive 33 in Easterns narrow loss to the Bushrangers in Round 11. If the Ranges are to have any chance this weekend they will need the big-man to continue this solid form.
