SENIORS:
Last Saturday Altona travelled to St Albans and with third position on the line the game promised to be a cracker.
The game started as expected with both teams out to get an early lead. St Albans were up and about early kicking the first goal but Altona answered quickly and sending out a message that the Vikings were here to play footy. Altona went on to kick 6 goals to St Albans 2 goals going into the quarter time break with a handy 26 point lead.
Altona came out full of running in the second quarter with Ziggy looking dangerous down forward along with Rodney Rich and Billy El Souki kicking goals. Our backline was rock solid with Barners and Johnno Hevern providing plenty of run out of the backline but the battle of the day was looming between the dangerous Tim Jenkins from St Albans and Gags who was wearing him like a glove. Altona was brilliant winning the quarter and extending the lead to 48 points at half time.
As expected St Albans came out in the third quarter laying down the challenge to Altona and kicking the first 2 goals. Altona managed to weather the storm and mid way through the quarter had regained their composure and control the remainder of the quarter. Gags continued to worry Jenkins with Healy too good and too quick on the wing. It was another good quarter for Altona extending the lead by 51 points at the last break.
St Albans came out hard in the last quarter but were not up to the task and it was Altona that controlled the quarter. Our midfield lead by Josh Russo and Gags were dominating with Nathan Giles and Hollywood controlling the centre and marking everything around the ground. Our forwards were proving too good for their opponents and Rodney Rich must have had leather poisoning by the end of the day he had so much of the ball. The quarter was marred by a sickening but fair clash that saw Billy El Souki knocked unconscious and being stretchered off the ground. We are pleased to report that Billy is fine and is recovering well. Altona went on to win the game by 65 points with David Barnaby BOG. The final score was Altona 21. 14. 140 defeated St Albans 11. 9. 75.
The Altona boys wore black armbands out of respect for AFC Life Member Cornelis (Ken) Roosenboom who sadly passed away during the week. It was great to see Kens son Jack attend the game with his daughter Brittany and our thoughts are with their family at this difficult time.

RESERVES:
Our reserves team were again well undermanned going into the game with only one man on the bench. Adam Magnabosco was on fire kicking 2 goals early in the first quarter before doing his hamstring and leaving the ground for the day. Altona now had no interchange bench and were up against it.
Guy McCleish was in great form kicking 5 goals and he was supported by Allan Cassar, Kev Mc Donald, Hodgy and Lee Baker who all had good games. Our reserves boys served it right up to St Albans but injuries and fatigue finally took their toll and the Altona boys eventually lost the match.

Best Players: A. Cassar, K. McDonald, G. McCleish, A. Hodgetts, L. Baker
DIV 1 - U18
This was the match of the day with first placed Altona taking on third placed St Albans. The first half was a bit of an arm wrestle with neither team giving an inch. Altona put St Albans to the sword in the third quarter breaking open the game and this was enough to set Altona up for the win. David Buysen was BOG and he was supported by Dylan Di Genova, Munir El Houli, Jimmy Mead, Bryce MacArtney and Jordan Allen.

DIV 2 - U18
It was another hard day at the office for our Division Two U18 team who took on third placed Albanvale. The first half of the game was tough for our boys, but after half time the team played really well and were disciplined matching it with Albanvale in the second half. Ben Davies was BOG for Altona with Tristan Smith, Jai Patterson, Michael Rogers, Jarrod England and Corey Cummings all playing well.
