The Grand Finalists are set, and the Saints have been preparing for the biggest game of 2009. This week, in the lead up to the GF, we will be looking more closely at the Grand Final squad of players for the Saints. We start this week by looking at the forwards, who have been dangerous all year, spearheaded by Griffiths Medallist Mick Viney.
40 - Mick Viney - Dangerous around the goal square, the big man has kicked the most goals in the competition this year. Hard to beat when on the lead and even harder one on one, the Saints will send alot of attacking forays through him.
34 - Gary Hadland - Another player that controls the ball at ground level. Is equally good with right or left foot and runs and caries the ball with great purpose.
12 - Beau Ryan - One of the finds of the season for the Saints. Plays up on the half forward flank and wins the ball on the ground or in the air. Rarely misses the set shot, or the snap for that matter.
33 - Jason Gobbert - The tall timber is impossible to beat if the ball is in the air. Takes strong marks overhead and usually finishes any opportunity he gets.
16 - Keiran Te Velde - Another new player to the club who is a natural athelte. Competes well around the ground and has blistering speed. Has improved his kicking and is a constant threat in the forward 50.
3 - Peter Heath - The joint best and fairest in the league, he took over coaching this team half way through the season and the Saints haven't looked back. Great mark and penetrating kick, he is a star of the competition.
5 - Mick Corcoran - A young star in the making, he is highly skilled of the left or right foot and has speed to burn. Learning how to play his role down forward and is scoring goals every time he takes the field. A player the Saints will build around in the future
Tune in each day to read more about the Grand Final squad of the Saints, with the midfielders to be listed tomorrow.
