The Inverell Saints
travel for the fourth consecutive week when they head to Tamworth this weekend
to take on the Kangaroos. Although
the Saints have won 2 of their 3 games on the road this trip out, they have not
won at Number One Oval in their last 6 attempts. It has been an interesting period for the Saints, but with
only 5 rounds left to play in the home and away season, it is time to deliver
on what has been a season of promise.
These two teams have had some epic battles in the last 2 and a half seasons,
with less than 3 straight kicks being the difference in 5 of the last 6
matches. This match also looms as
a massive one for both clubs, with the Saints and Roos tied on 6 wins for the
season and just 4 points from the ladder leaders. With last week’s big win in Muswellbrook, the Saints are
left to rue even more the loss in Gunnedah two starts back when they conceded a
5 goal lead. That win would be
enough to have the Saints on top the ladder, however now they must get over the
Roos to give themselves a chance of hosting a final this year.
The Saints will field a strong side for the match, and on the back of last week's big win, will look to put together consecutive wins and shore up a spot in the top 3 of the competition. The forward line will be led by Mick Viney, fresh from his club record 11 goals last week and Peter Heath, who is always dangerous across half forward. Ben Lee will start in the ruck and will try to provide first use to the ball getters around him, notably Beau Ryan and Jack Lawton. Shaun Mansbridge returns to the side to help the backline, with Captain Matty Harrison sure to get an important job nullifying the Roos forwards.
This match is the second match in Tamworth this weekend, and both games will have a huge impact on the finals make up. All the action starts from 1pm, followed by the Saints v Roos at 3pm.
