The Inverell Saints will enter this weekendâs game against the Nomads
facing the prospect of starting the 2009 season with 3 straight losses. De-
spite a couple of hard fought matches in Tamworth to start off the year, the
Saints have yet to register a win and now take on the top of the table No-
mads in the first home game of the year.
The wide expanse of Varley will be a welcome sight for the Saints, who
continued a bad run of trips to Tamworth last weekend. New recruit Peter
Heath was outstanding on debut and the Saints will once again look to his
leadership this weekend. The big marking forward made his mark last
weekend with a couple of great hangers, and contributed 5 goals playing
primarily out of the centre. The form of second year player Jack Lawton
has also been impressive in the first 2 rounds, with the lanky midfielder
turning into a quality player. The Saints will also look for inspiration from
the usual suspects, co Best and Fairest recipients Jono Elphick and Chris
Whitton, as well as young gun Joe Kimmince.
The Saints have included a couple of big "ins", with Alex Dasey, Tom Williams, Dick Glesson and Peter Dunlop sure to add plenty of experience to the line up. The height of new recruit Ben Lee in the defense will also help as the Saints try to repel some of the Nomads tall timbers.
The Saints have improved out of sight on the training track this week and
are determined to put in a big effort this weekend. Although the Nomads
will be no pushover, the Saints will look to improve on their performances
from the first 2 rounds.
